FAQ

Does insurance cover your fees?
YES. Services are covered by MOST insurance companies and insurance plans. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the Ontario College of Psychotherapist.  You may  submit your receipts for services to your insurance company. They will then reimburse you according to your plan.  It’s the client’s responsibility to know if such receipts are acceptable to his/her insurance company.

What can I expect in our first meeting together?
The first session is an  intake appointment. We go over basic but important information regarding Services, collecting relevant historical information, your concerns, challenges as well as your expectations for therapy. By the end of the session I’m able to develop a therapeutic plan and suggestions to move forward in our work.
As we get to know each other during this session, it also provides you with the opportunity to ask me any questions as well as to have a first-hand experience of my style and approach as a therapist.

How long is an appointment?
All Psychotherapy sessions are 50 minutes long. Hypnotherapy sessions are between 60 and 70 minutes long.

How long will therapy last?
Each individual is unique and consequently, the length of therapy depends on your needs, challenges, history, motivation and expectations for change. Although someone with a phobia may only need 2-3 sessions to create noticeable change, someone who suffers from anxiety may need between at least 10 sessions. As our work together progresses, we assess changes. Assessing helps us both feel confident about the direction of our work.

What is the difference between psychotherapy, counselling and hypnotherapy?
Generally speaking, Psychotherapy is in-depth and exploratory in nature. It is often recommended for complex emotional, psychological or behavioural concerns. Counselling usually refers to therapeutic work that focuses on the symptoms. Hypnotherapy is the combination of hypnosis and other carefully planned counselling and therapeutic modalities. Hypnotherapy can be helpful with a wide variety of challenges or unwanted behaviours.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation and focused attention on a subject matter. During the hypnotic state, your brain waves go from a Beta level (alert) to an Alpha level (slower waves). Your mind becomes more receptive while in the Alpha state; and it is able to replace old ideas efficiently and effectively. The results of a study conducted in Harvard University in 2001, document and indicate that the brain activity of people under hypnosis actually changes. Hypnosis is a safe and recognized therapeutic tool.

Do you use Hypnosis with every client?

Absolutely not. I don’t impose therapeutic modalities to any client. The use of Hypnosis is decided by mutual agreement between client and practitioner.  Even then, I always combine Hypnosis with Psychotherapy  tools. Clinical hypnosis is a fabulous tool, but unfortunately it is not the magic pill some would want to believe.
